In today’s hustle and bustle world, we all wear many hats. Robin Sampson, of DigiScrap Delights, is no stranger to this concept. As a mother of 11 kids, grandmother, homeschooler, author and digital designer, her hat collection is as impressive as they come!

With such a large family, Robin wanted to scrapbook, but had little space in which to store and use the supplies that are necessary for making paper scrapbooks. In 2006, she discovered digital scrapbooking and soon she was creating page after page for her grandchildren. She also began creating cards and experimenting other digital crafts.

It was not long before Robin started designing her own digital kits to meet the needs of her digital scrapbooking projects. DigiScrap Delights was born. With a flair for color and pattern, most of Robin’s kits, papers and elements fit mostly into the “cottage chic” or “shabby chic” genre, but her store offers a variety of digi supplies to fit any style. Robin recently became interested in the “Project Life” scrapbooking system, so you can find a number of “Project Life” appropriate products in the DigiScrap Delights store, with more to come soon.

Although Robin began DigiScrap Delights as an Etsy store, which is still her main location, she also began selling her products this past month at ScrapFlower.com. You can also find Robin on her blog, which she loves to update frequently and you can often find many lovely freebies there. Tip: When using a “paint” item over an element, make two copies of the paint element. One to be placed over the item and the other under the item. Now clip the “paint” item that is OVER your element to the element. It will look like the paint job was done after you glued your element.

Organizing Digital Scrapbook Stash with Previews

We all LOVE to browse the digital scrapbook stores. How would you like to browse your personal scrapbook stash the same way you browse scrapbook stores? You can re-organizing your files with previews. I use by ACDSee to move files and previews to the proper folders (you don’t need ACDsee for this to work it just makes moving files easier).

Organizing is time consuming but it is necessary. Remember how easy is was to find your favorite blouse and other items after you organized your closet? Saves a lot of time and frustration, doesn’t it? A few minutes spent getting organized now will save hours later.

Think about a lumberjack cutting down trees in the forrest. He has to stop and sharpen his axe occasionally. With a sharp axe he can work faster and easier. Organizing saves money too. Every time I organize I find elements I purchased and forgot about (don’t tell my husband). Organize your stash to make scrap-pages or kits faster and easier.

IMPORTANT: NEVER EVER separate images or previews from the original file folder. Only move COPIES of previews or elements into new category folders. It takes up a little more space by you need to keep files with TOU and designer information in the original files.

Organizing Your Digital Stash with Previews

When I click on a folder I can see all the kit or element previews at a glance. Only the previews are in these folders. The actual png, jpg, psd files are stored on my hard drive. Occasionally files do not have previews. Its worth Googling the item to find the preview to add to your stash.

Organizing Photoshop Tools with Previews

Each Photoshop Tool (Action, styles, brushes, etc) folder includes a Preview Folder so I can see what I have at a glance.

Copying and Moving Previews in ACDSee

It is very easy to copy the previews to the preview folders with ACDSee (note: you can view Photoshop Brush files in ABDsee but not in Windows Explorer).

Open the folder to find the preview.

Right click n the preview and select COPY TO FOLDER. Continue to each folder gathering and copying previews.

Save Hard Drive Space

If you stash is so big its bogging down your hard-drive consider only keeping the previews on computer and the items on an extenal hard drive.Works for me.

When I first started digital scrapbooking in 2006, I tried keeping a seperate folder for kit previews but I didn’t keep it up. Now I know the value of this system. It is worth the time to organize now and create future kits and pages much faster and easier.

Another Timesaver: Photoshop Shortcuts

The number one time saver is knowing your Photoshop keyboard shortcuts. Once you learn them you can navigate through the software quicker and easier while maintaining your creative flow. Here are a few:

Ctrl + Z (Undo)- THE best shortcut ever!
Ctrl + Shift + N (New Layer
H (Hand Tool)
Z (Zoom Tool)
Ctrl + 0 (Fit on Screen)
B (Brush Tool)
Tab (Hide/Show Palettes)
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + N (New Layer No Dialog)
Ctrl + Shift + C (Copy Merged) clipboard. This command only works if you’ve made a selection on the image first (use Ctrl+A to select all), otherwise you’ll get a copy of nothing. This is useful if you want to duplicate what you see on the screen into another image file or even another layer.
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E (Stamp Visible)
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + K (Show Keyboard Commands)
[ (Decrease Brush Size)
] (Increase Brush Size)
Shift + [ (Decrease Brush Softness)

Project Life Week 5

Week 5 was a busy week. I was in Florida so I created four pages. The first page in Week 5 I used the Cottage Chic 2 Cards. The first page is FL and the second page is at home in TN. Click on any image for a larger view.

The next two pages are quite different with a bright fun birthday theme. I used the Bright Fun Card Pack.

My boys were gone to visit their sister this week so I took the opptortunity to use the Cottage Chic Pocket Journal Cards.
