Quick and Easy Winter Birdfeeders

I’m from Florida,  we always made peanut butter pinecone feeders. Now in TN we don’t have any pine cones in the yard but we do have bagels.

You Will Need:

  1. peanutsA day old bagel (cut in half) or a pinecone
  2. Lard, peanut butter or honey
  3. Birdseed
  4. String or ribbon

To Make the Bagel or Pinecone Birdfeeder:
1. Spread the sticky stuff (lard, peanut butter or honey) on the bagel half or the pinecone.
2. Roll the bagel or pinecone in the birdseed. (Or put with birdseed in a large ziplock bag and shake.)
3. Tie the string ribbon through the hole of the bagel or top of pinecone.
4. Hang your treat from a tree.

  1. We used to do this when I was a kid. The bluejays would fight over it and chase all the other birds away…so we finally hung about 15 different one throughout the yard! It is fun to watch the different birds that show up!

What a clever idea! I’ve made these with pinecones in the past, but we don’t have any in our area. A day old bagel is the perfect substitution!
