Forgiveness is powerful! When exercised, it is not only freedom to the person conducting the act of forgiveness, but also to the recipient. Imagine what this world would be like if we walked in the power of forgiveness of others and ourselves.

I am going to have to visit this page a few more times so I can slowly read each of your points and meditate on them. I arrived here today by googling "housework is like forgiveness". I've been praying a lot lately in regards to housework and how I can't keep up with the messes my family makes and how they don't seem to care that I am usually the only one struggling to clean. Sometimes I give up and let the housework slack because it hurts me, it annoys me, it grieves me and makes me angry, sad and resentful that my family's help is not given freely and any asking on my part is well fraught with difficulties meaning they ignore me, they ridicule me or lie to me as in "Yes, I will do that." and then they don't do it. So while pulling myself together to tackle some undone housecleaning tasks, it came to me that housework is like forgiveness it is continual process. You stop and it piles up and it stinks and causes frustration. You keep doing it and it is easier and you feel better because you've done it. You get something out of it, even though it doesn't stay exactly the way you want. Forgiveness like housework is usually one sided meaning one person is doing the work/forgiving because the other person has messed up and the person who messed up may not know they messed up or admit they messed up. They also might feel entitled to their mess up. I learned to forgive a long time ago, so I thought. The situation I am thinking of it helped and helps. I can bear the company of the person who hurt me though because of their overbearing personality I still have to remind myself to forgive them. This person has crosses of their own to bear. Yet sometimes like housework you let go of forgiveness and let things pile up because you can't cope with it and then you have to start all over again when you feel up to it and sometimes you have to do it when you are not feeling up to it. So I am thinking that God let me realize "housework is like forgiveness" because I need to forgive my family their sloppy ways; and forgive myself for slacking off and then resenting the discomfort I find in disarray and dirt my family spins around me. I need to pray on it and give my home to him while doing the cleaning (housework) and the healing (forgiveness) and only then can there be some kind of transformation. Maybe I can forgive myself more because God forgives me and I can forgive my family because God forgives them and somewhere in all this I might find comfort in a comfortable if not clean home. I don't want perfection, just someone to wash the crumbs off the counter when they cut a piece of cake or butter a piece of toast, etc. Thanks for letting me comment. My brain hurts, think I've mispelled and used the wrong form of a few words. Sorry. I have to go rest my mind.

I always enjoy stopping by and reading the posts here. This one in particular definitely hit home. I have been meditating on Ephesians 4:31-32 and appreciate you breaking the issue of forgiveness down so clearly.

Another great post, thanks, Robin, I recently heard a counselor say that before we can truly forgive, we must realize what it is we are forgiving. That doesn't mean the hurt doesn't matter or isn't valid. I am learning that we need to put it before the Lord, sometimes daily and remind ourselves, and the enemy of our soul, that we HAVE forgiven. And to learn to walk it out.
Thanks, Robin for helping us along on this difficult road. You are a gift to the Body of Christ.
God bless,
Lori
