What Are You Feeding Your Children?
Here are two videos discussing food ingredients. The first one is fairly long but very interesting. It’s very educational. The second is humorous but also informative.

About the Twinkie Video
Like most Americans, Steve Ettlinger eats processed foods. And, like most consumers, he often reads the ingredients label—without a clue as to what most of it means. So when his young daughter asked, “Daddy, what’s polysorbate 60?” he was at a loss—and determined to find out.
From the phosphate mines in Idaho to the corn fields in Iowa, from gypsum mines in Oklahoma to the vanilla harvest in Madagascar, Twinkie, Deconstructed is a fascinating, thoroughly researched romp of a narrative that demystifies some of the most common processed food ingredients—where they come from, how they are made, how they are used—and why. Beginning at the source (hint: they’re often more closely linked to rock and petroleum than any of the four food groups), we follow each Twinkie ingredient through the process of being crushed, baked, fermented, refined, and/or reacted into a totally unrecognizable goo or powder with a strange name—all for the sake of creating a simple snack cake.

Know the Cause
I’ve been reading a lot by Doug Kaufmann on fungus and health since my heart surgery. See his site Know the Cause. Passover is coming soon, April 20 this year (8 day fast from yeast). I’ll share more of my theory soon.

The Twinkie movie was absolutely fascinating. Sam and I watched it together and were spellbound. Rocks in our food – who knew? I was especially intrigued by all the secrecy involved. I’m going to be a label reader now for sure.
The hamburger movie was cute. Sure makes you think twice about eating fast food.
wow, that was amazing, but scary. I hope the salads are ok, thats usually what we get.
Although, it makes me wonder what the chicken they use is made of/from??
Thanks, Robin!

Hi, thanks for posting this. I wandered here from another blog and will be coming back to visit more. The twinkie video is interesting. I have a second blog where I have been discussing food related discoveries, changes etc for my family and recipes. It’s amazing what we have come to eating and really it’s rooted in laziness. We began label reading and started with eliminating high fructose corn syrup, then corn syrup, then MSG… well that left out a lot of foods right there. Now that we have been eating primarily whole foods (we try to eat food as close to how God made it!) we really notice the chemicals in other things. We have it because in our memory it tastes good but then we eat it and sometimes it tastes good but we taste all those chemicals and it leaves you with an aftertaste that you don’t notice when you have been eating it all the time. The burger video is pretty eye opening too. We do occasionally go through the drive through with the kids, but have been less and less. I’m going to talk to Hubby about eliminating this all together. That list of chemicals in burgers is SCARY! It sounds like a superfund clean up site list!
