Seven Steps to Home Organization
Is home organization too overwhelming to think about? Are there disaster zones in your home? Do you really want to get organized but you are putting it off because you don’t know where to start or how to do it? Is opening that back closet becoming dangerous?

My absolute favorite home organization site is AsktheDecorator.com. Ask the Decorator is a home-improvement and decorating show hosted by Meghan Carter. Meghan travels across the country to find the best products and ideas to use in your home. Here Meghan’s video examines the big benefits that come from tackling home organization.
Steps for Organizing Your Home:
- Start with the area of your home that causes the most stress.
- Lay the contents out and group like things together.
- Purge duplicate, old, worn-out or broken items and other clutter.
- Determine your organization style by reflecting on how you like items arranged.
- Purchase organizers that suit your organization style.
- Return items into their places utilizing the organizers and the Theory of Prime Real Estate (“whatever you use most often needs to be easiest to access and closest at hand.”)
- Eliminate the excess.
Purge if…
- It is a duplicate
- It is broken or unusable
- It is out of style
- You haven’t used it in the last year
- It isn’t useful or doesn’t bring you happiness
