A friend said it to me like this, Our righteousness is but filthy rags. Who do we think we are to offer Christ our 'works' of righteousness? We just hand him more filthy rags. He wants to be loved and worshiped. He will guide us and we will see Him manifest in our lives naturally. It's not something we can force to happen. That would be self.
