The Secret – Best Selling Book, DVD, and online Video
There is a lot of buzz on the book and DVD titled the Secret by Rhonda Byrne. This book tops the best seller list at at Amazon and New York Times. The author and a panel appeared on Oprah last month. Oprah and others say it’s the secret to creating the life you truly want—losing weight, making money, finding love by controlling your thoughts.The Secret is explained as a spiritual law based on the “law of attraction.” If we control our thoughts and “put out” draws the same kind of energy back to us. If we think or believe a negative thing, such as “I will never loose weight,” then we have just “placed an order” (as one panelist on the Oprah show put it) to the universe, as one would do in a restaurant, and that is what will happen. However, if we believe, feel, and act on a something good that we desire, then that is what will come to pass. We are supposed to believe and act as if that which we desire has already come about.
On the Oprah show it was stated that the Secret is Christian because Jesus said “Ask and believing, you shall receive” and Jesus said, “The Kingdom is within you.” After all the Bible says “as a man thinkth so is he” Proverbs 23:7)
My bottom line: This is not a new secret but an old lie. It includes ancient Egyptian mystery religions, Gnosticism, Science of Mind, Unity, the New Thought and New Age beliefs.
Some Christians are buying into this philosophy by twisting Scripture to fit this thought. Same old lies as in the Garden of Eden. They talk about “Taking every thought captive” but leave out God and the verses that tell us to submit to God’s will: Matt 6.8-10, 26:39, 42, 44; Lk 6.28, 18.13, 21.36, 22.40; Jn 17.
Rhonda Byrne, author of The Secret, is a disciple of Jerry and Esther Hick. If you read anything by these people you will see they talk a lot about Abraham. This is NOT Abraham in the Bible. It is a spirit channeled. nuf said?
