As we've grown in our relationship, he has realized that I needed him to express love more, show me that he loved me. As he does that, I feel more loved by him and by God. I did not find intimacy with my husband till I was over 40 years old -- and I honestly beleive that my relationship with GOD became more intimate at that time too -- because I was able to liken the two -- which you did so well in the first paragraphs of this post. Your thoughts also remind me that we need to SURRENDER to HIM -- not just "commit." Commitment involves self and Christ already did everything. We need do nothing! SURRENDERING acknowledges this and simply allows us to grow in intimacy. Amen and amen!! It isn't about me pulling myself up by the bootstraps and trying harder. It is about me falling to my face before God, seeking to know Him more, spending deep time with Him to confess and seek His healing power in my life. I just finished re-reading "The Shack" and was impacted again by so many scenes in it. How we as humans have minimized the character, love, kindness, mercy, and grace of God. He is so much better, bigger, kinder, than I ever knew. Just thought I would share a quote from Oswald Chambers: "It takes me a long while to realize that God has no respect for anything I bring to Him. All He wants from me is unconditional surrender." This quote hit me between the eyes--the concept of me not having to bring anything to Him but me is hard to accept--but I know it is true.
