What is Your Focus? Your Foundation?

As we fellowship with other believers and read books we can grow in wisdom and understanding. But the most important thing is that we focus on Christ, for He is our wisdom (1 Cor. 1:24) and in Him is hidden “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col. 2:3).
The better we know Christ and the more we become like Him, the more we will walk in wisdom and understand the will of the Lord. When we allow the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of our heart, we can see God in His Word and understand more of the riches we have in Christ (Eph. 1:15–23). Too many times Christian focus on the church or doctrine o reven their own faith.
Martha believed in resurrection—the doctrine of resurrection—She knew Lazarus would arise on the last day. Her faith and hope was in doctrine NOT in Jesus. Jesus said to her “I am the resurrection.” (John 11:25). If doctrine becomes our focus (KJV only, Calvinism, etc.) we are lead astray.
Emphasizing the external may bring an appearance of godliness but it actually denies its power. Any time our focus takes precedence over focusing on Christ we have lost our focus. When we depend on Him, not a church, a man, or a doctrine, then our faith begins to grow. ONLY in Him do we begin to love.

Our Foundation
Christ is our spiritual foundation—a seed that sprouts too soon will have weak roots. To have a firm foundation—the bigger the building the stronger the foundation needs to be. A skyscraper needs more than a shallow footing—you have to dig deep enough to find bedrock, then drive pilings into the bedrock and fasten them securely. To be rooted and grounded in love (my favorite verse)—In Christ means having Him as our foundation—a church, man, or doctrine is a foundation of sand and will eventually crumble.
Faith in faith is not the same as faith in God, because it has no foundation. It is building on the sand (Matt. 7:24–27). True faith is our obedient response to the Word of God.
