Psalm 91 is definitely one to memorize. When trouble comes you can be so distracted that finding you Bible is a challenge. Or, your Bible may be any miles away. Robin, I love the point you make that God works all trouble to our good. The important thing is to stay pressed up against him in the Secret Place and not concern ourselves with how He is going to do that. Many fine Believers miss this point!

God has promised us protection. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to believe the promise. "Believe", now we are talking faith. Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God. So, as I pray the Word and pray and pray and pray, my heart IS hearing the Word and hearing the Word in my own voice. Very valuable for impacting the subconscious and unconscious mind! Science is well aware of this phenomenon now. God was well aware of it when He inspired Paul to write about "hearing" in the epistles.

SO, as we soak in Scripture through study, prayer, and meditation, it alters our world view. We become people of great faith...the mountain-moving sort. Exciting stuff!

This was one of the first Psalms I memorized in my early Christian walk. I found such a comfort in the clarity of what we have when we rest in God alone and seek to find shelter under his wings of grace. Whether or not we find the physical protection doesn't diminish from the eternal value of what His Spirit protects us from. I find I am always refreshed as I speak His Word over my life and circumstances knowing that He is always mindful to care for me, and this Psalm reminds me of those truths. Thanks for a wonderful article and acronym for REFUGE.
Blessings to you in Christ,
Dawn

I memorized this Psalm quite a long time ago but always wondered why then missionaries have been killed while preaching the gospel, why Christians still die in accidents, why when I prayed my husband would be safe at work, he still broke his ankle? This is definitely a Psalm of protection and very comforting too but don't know if it's applicable to us today or if it was just David expressing his faith in God.
