Psalm 91 Prayer
Psalm 91 has become known as the Protection and Shield Psalm.
Whatever is done, our heavenly Father’s will is done; and we have no reason to fear. Whatever trouble is for good. Set your eyes and love upon God in all your ways. By prayer constantly call upon Him.
He promises that he will, in due time, deliver the believer out of trouble, and, in the mean time, comfort him in trouble.

Meditate daily on God’s love conveyed through the words of Psalm 91. Memorize it so that you are able to recite it in times of trouble. It is one of the most powerful psalms ever written. Every word is filled with the presence of God enveloping you in His love and protection.
Because I dwell in the secret place
Of the Most High,
I shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
You are My Refuge and my Fortress:
My God;
In You will I trust.
Surely You will deliver me from
The snare of the fowler,
And from the deadly pestilence.
You shall cover me with Your feathers,
And under Your wings shall I trust.
Your truth shall be my shield and buckler.
I shall not be afraid of the terror by night;
Or of the arrow that flies by day;
Or of the pestilence that walks in darkness;
Or of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at my side,
And ten thousand at my right hand,
But it shall not come near me.
Only with my eyes will I behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because I have made the Lord,
Who is my Refuge,
Even the Most High,
My dwelling place,
There shall no evil befall me,
Neither shall any evil come near my house.
For You shall give Your angels charge over me,
To keep me in all of my ways.
They shall bear me up on their hands,
Lest I dash my foot on a stone.
I shall tread upon the lion and adder;
The young lion and the serpent
I shall trample under foot.
Because I have set my love upon You,
Therefore You will deliver me.
You will set me on high,
Because I have known Your Name.
I shall call upon You,
And You will answer me.
You will be with me in trouble;
You will deliver me,
And honor me.
With long life You will satisfy me,
And show me Your salvation.

I memorized this Psalm quite a long time ago but always wondered why then missionaries have been killed while preaching the gospel, why Christians still die in accidents, why when I prayed my husband would be safe at work, he still broke his ankle? This is definitely a Psalm of protection and very comforting too but don’t know if it’s applicable to us today or if it was just David expressing his faith in God.

This was one of the first Psalms I memorized in my early Christian walk. I found such a comfort in the clarity of what we have when we rest in God alone and seek to find shelter under his wings of grace. Whether or not we find the physical protection doesn’t diminish from the eternal value of what His Spirit protects us from. I find I am always refreshed as I speak His Word over my life and circumstances knowing that He is always mindful to care for me, and this Psalm reminds me of those truths. Thanks for a wonderful article and acronym for REFUGE.
Blessings to you in Christ,
Dawn

God has promised us protection. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to believe the promise. “Believe”, now we are talking faith. Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God. So, as I pray the Word and pray and pray and pray, my heart IS hearing the Word and hearing the Word in my own voice. Very valuable for impacting the subconscious and unconscious mind! Science is well aware of this phenomenon now. God was well aware of it when He inspired Paul to write about “hearing” in the epistles.
SO, as we soak in Scripture through study, prayer, and meditation, it alters our world view. We become people of great faith…the mountain-moving sort. Exciting stuff!
