The lapbooks are a great idea. I particularly like the 8 page booklet Scrapbook Folder. What a lovely idea for my grand children's special items they present Nanna with from time to time. Also their special School Certificates presented to the little ones in encouragement. I keep them but haven't worked out what to do with them until now, so I had better get busy. Thanks so much.

Robin, Your lap books are so beautifully and artistically done.

I have found that lapbooks or unit study books CAN be academically effective if the planning for them starts at the beginning of the unit. Most units (whether self-discovery unit studies or textbooks) have an advanced organizing concept. (That's a fancy way of saying "outline".)

Better students keep that concept (or outline) in their mind as they acquire new information and put the new info in the correct "slot" in their brain.

For our artistic students who love to share their lapbooks, this can create a natural motivation to mentally place information in the same place as they place it artistically.

Moreover, as the creator of the booklet, they have a vested interest in knowing what is in the folder that they so proudly share.

Thanks for your lapbooking dictionary and step by step directions.

This is a great idea! I think it will motivate moms (like me) who love the artistic side of things to be more involved with the summary process of a child's learning.
