Handel: For Unto Us a Child is Born
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor,Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
George Frideric Handel (23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759) was a German-born Baroque composer who is famous for his operas, oratorios and concerti grossi. Born as Georg Friedrich Händel (IPA: [ˈhɛndəl]) in Halle, he spent most of his adult life in England, becoming a subject of the British crown on 22 January 1727.[3] His works include Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Strongly influenced by the techniques of the great composers of the Italian Baroque era, as well as the English composer Henry Purcell—Handel’s music became well-known to many composers, including Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
