Be Transformed from Religion to Relationship

feature photo

Did you know a caterpillar has the DNA of the butterfly before it is physically transformation is seen?

When one trust Christ as Savior we have the DNA of God through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. We have the DNA of  a child of God before the physical fruit is seen in our walk!

In this video John Lynch explains this analogy for the new nature inside every Christian.

Just like a caterpillar and butterfly, we go through stages, our transformation or maturity in Christ is determined by our trust in God. Notice I didn’t say “by Pleasing God.”

The difference in pleasing and trusting is in our motivation. Cain wanted to Please God, Abel trusted God. When you trust God you please God. When you try to please God by your works you become self righteous.

These people…honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.”
Isaiah 29:13

I know this becasue I was trapped for years trying to please God through church attendance and obedience to legalistic  standards.  (See chapters of my life at  Treadmill to Relationship: From Mask to Truefaced)

I wore a mask, trying to do and say all the right things to please God. My focus was on what I had to do to grow into deeper level of intimacy with God. I learned I don’t have to do anything but trust to grow into deeper level of intimacy with God.

By trusting God, through Christ we are transformed by love and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, which produces the fruit of the spirit.

“...love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love….Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him….We love because He first loved us” (1 Jn.4:7b,8,16b,19).

God has provided us with the tools (repentance, prayer, His Word) we need to break free by gaining an understanding and by trusting Him. As you turn your troubles to Him you can feel safe, secure, and loved.

A relationship with God  is meant to be a love affair of the heart–between father and child. John said, “We love because He first loved us” (4:19).

  2. Absolutely great post, Robin. I love the idea that the ability to be a butterfly is already completely programmed into the caterpillar. What a great way to illustrate our inheritance in Christ.
