After the Election Encouragement

History was made last night. I’m proud to be a part of a country that elected an African-American as President. (Even if I don’t care for this man’s character or policies). We have come a long way and we have further to go.

I browsed several blogs this morning and found several encouraging  perspectives on the election.

  1. Embracing God’s Perspective During Troubling Times from WordJourney by Matt
The election is over and the results are in – Barack Obama has been chosen to be America’s 44th president…
  2. Yes We Can by Hopeful Spirit
As President-Elect Barack Obama wrapped up his victory speech a little while ago, NBC News Anchor Brian Williams asked that question as images of a sea of celebrating supporters…
  3. Nevertheless from Sound of a Soft Breath
Distressed, hungry, weary, hard-pressed, pain, roaming, famished, enraged, darkness, trouble, anguish, fear, and gloom… Have you been there? Can you relate? Do some or all of these words describe you and where you’re at?…
  4. Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled by Ann Kroker
our Lord, but only a calm strength that never got into a panic. Most of
us develop our Christianity along the lines of our own nature, not
along the lines of God’s nature…
  5. What Ever Happens at Belief Without Sight
There was nothing of the nature of impulsive or thoughtless action about t is the Lord that I trust in, not in governments, presidents, or possessions, but in HIM. In His grace and mercy and goodness, and in the knowledge that “this world is not my home, I’m just a-passin’ through…
  6. Proud by Windscraps
I’m feeling proud today … in a schizophrenic sort of way…

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turns it wherever he will. (Proverbs 21:1)

Pray for our President-elect Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, and daughters, Sasha and Malia.

And pray for Israel.

  2. Thank you for including Word Journey on your list, Robin. I felt led of the Lord to lift up my brothers and sisters today, knowing that some are truly questioning what is going on.

Frankly, I don’t have all of the answers, but I know when we pray to Jesus, He’ll comfort our hearts as well as change the heart of Barack Obama.

  3. Not being from the US doesn’t mean I don’t think about, pray about and have an opinion about the US election. I have such conflicting thoughts about it all…but one thing I do know - our prayers are needed more than ever!

I’ll be following your country’s policies and laws over the next few years, wishing they didn’t, but knowing that they usually set a precedent for our own country.

I’m so thankful that God is always on The Throne. He is never not in control..how we need to lean upon Him and draw upon His strength.

    Blessings,
    Susan

  4. Dear Robin,
Thank you for this post. Yes, history was made last evening. Yes, we must pray for Mr. Obama, and his family. We must pray for real revival to take place in the heart of the church. We must pray for the times ahead for courage to discern them and continue to pray for Israel.

I did not vote for Mr. Obama, because I do not agree with his ideas or policies, specially on some Biblical issues. But I am happy for him, his family and for the African American community, they have been through a lot as a community. I am happy that as a nation we’ve moved beyond the ugliness of racism.

As a new American Citizen, I was very proud of going to vote yesterday. I felt proud that I had a choice and a chance to vote out of my own free will. In my country is the law that every citizen must vote or pay a fee. After three times of not voting you loose certain citizenship rights, one of them is the right to obtain a passport. I also thought of the countries which one can’t chose a candidate, the government chooses for you and dictates what they want. Blessings,
    Katia

  6. I wrote “Nevertheless” last week before the election and didn’t even think of it in that context. But for me right now it fits. Thanks for putting it in that context and I am so glad you were blessed and encouraged by it.

    Love you.

  8. Thank you for pulling together those resources for us all.

  9. For such a time as this God has redeemed us!!! How exciting to be alive at this point in history. What will God be doing in the world???

As God’s children, we need not fret, ever!!!! We have favor with the most high God!!! Now that is something to have joy in!!! We must remember that God places all in authority-he doesn’t passively allow those in authority to be there, he actually places them there. And since he is a just and righteous God, he acts justly and righteously!!! That doesn’t mean the leader will be just and righteous but God has his reasons and has it all under control!!!!! We are going to be taken care of by our Father. Doen’t mean everything will be cushy and easy, it means God will not leave or forsake us, he will provide for all our needs and he will favor his own!!!!! What a deal!!!! In fact God will go “above and beyond” for his own!!! We all need to use this time to seek him more, study and rightly divide the Word. We need to understand who he is so we can trust him and know what he will do for us. Many times his blessings come with conditions but the conditions are usually easy and are always for our good-so even the obeying is a blessing.

One example of God’s care of his people: When the Israelites were in Egypt and petitioning Pharoah to let them go, the plagues came to sway Pharoah. When the flies were everywhere in Egypt, not one fly bothered God’s people, when it was total darkness for Egypt God’s people walked around literally in the light!!!!! And so on!!!!! But in the land of Goshen…… God takes care of his own!!!!! God does not meet out his wrath on his sons and daughters!!!

Stay steady with God!!! As Christians we too often cower in the corner hoping God will keep us safe from the “booggie man”. We need to walk boldly before our God!!!! God has absolute power over everything, there is not one thing that we need fear!!!!! He is God and God alone. Jesus is ever interceeding for us!!!! Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thine own understanding!!!!

For help in knowing how to live in hard times, I highly recommend reading “Of Whom the world Was Not Worthy by Marie Chapian. Next to my Bible this is the single most important possession I have, I have read it 10-12 times, it is that good!!!!!

  10. Thank you for this! Here are my thoughts on the election and how we as Christians are to conduct ourselves.
