Everyone does not see things the same way.If you want to see evil in something you will see it.And if you want to see good in it you'll see it. Most here have already made up your minds on these things. However maybe you should go see these sais movies and or read these books expecting something good to come from them -READ- or WATCH- with a different mind set.

Can't advocate the Twilight books, mainly due to Stephenie Meyer's lack of aesthetic merit and inability to write herself out of a paper sack.

If your children are taking this series too seriously, allowing it to grossly warp their view of Christ and faith, then perhaps there's a deeper issue you need to address. If not, the vicious cycle of "fearing every fad" will continue.

Discernment? Yea, verily. Get the facts, faith, and fiction straight. Live for the former two, enjoy the latter.

With the constant rise of teen pregnancy, suicide, and drug abuse, it's nice to see some Christians still have their priorities straight. Even though it's a fictional (and completely generic) storyline, I could definitely see a 16-yr old watching this and thinking they should go out and drink people's blood.

Srsly, if reading Twilight causes major behavioral problems with your children, you must be raising the world's dumbest kids.

Jesus stands for love and all that encompasses that emotion. He wasn't a biggot and he associated with people who were considered scum of the earth. The Harry Potter series is about how love, friendship, caring and kindness can destroy evil. J.K Rowling's use of magic allowed her characters to defeat evil without being destructive. Not once does Harry Potter perform even an ounce of violence on his fellow man. Even in the end the destruction of the main villian is due to his own lack of understanding human emotions such as love. The Villians curse backfires and he destroys himself relieving our hero of the duty of having to comit the act of murder. I have also read the Twilight Series and believe it is a load of trash. There are no decent moral tales, nothing in it to promote strenght and individuality in our young women. They were stories written for desperate house wives who lack romance in their lives and who have no sense of who they are because they need a man to make them happy. I think it is important to read these books in order to understand them. It is also important not to let your mind be clouded by predjudice. Thank You.
and P.S it is J.K Rowling not Rowlings

Hi there,
I am wondering why it is that a person who is truely following the Holy Spirits leading thinks it will not grieve Him by us feasting our eyes and hearts upon scenes of deceit, evil, magic, witchcraft, sex scenes, etel. Doesnt Jesus want us to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that our lives will reflect His Glory?
How can this be when a confessing believer subjects his/herself to the above.
Personally im convicted so much by any of these, that i get up and leave should any of these situations arise.
My once upon a time life in the world i now see as all loss to me, a period of time growing closer to hell daily.
Do you not think the Holy Sprit is so grieved by such movies as lord of the rings, harry potter etel..
Go see them all, but do not expect our heavenly Father to use you until you repent of offending Him.

if you are talking about the harry potter series, i know nothing of it.
but out of personal experience, i adored the twilight saga, it has just nothing against religion! It is a totally innocent book for crying out loud!

I have been discussing these books (as a small part of our classic horror literature studies) with my kids, but they haven't (nor will they ever) read them. Funny how no one seems to care that a 100+ year old man is having a love affair with a 17 yr old girl. Like, ICK. Not to mention when the werewolves start imprinting on baby girls. It is suddenly OK for old men to have sexual feelings for children just because they are in young bodies?

I feel sorry for anyone who thinks these books are well written. For a scathing but accurate review of the series by someone who isn't even a Christian and yet sees the poor writing, plot holes, and other serious problems with these books, go to the Sparklife blog page at Sparknotes and check out the Blogging Twilight blog index.

The person who wrote this posting has a complete misunderstanding of the Bible and old testament scriptures in particular.

Our God is a loving God who shows us unending mercy.

As for the Twilight series, too adult themed and sensual for school age children - but children as young as 4th grade are reading it at our school (what?).

As for Harry Potter, my children are both readers, they have read many, many book series, both Christian and non Christian starting with Magic Treehouse, then Nancy Drew, then Lemony Snickets, then the Percy Jackson series, the Narnia series, Harry Potter series, and the next one will the the Lord of the Rings, No, we will not be reading Twilight. Everything should be done with guidance of parents. My children both love the Lord and nothing we have read has shaken them from their foundation in Him.

Hi!
I really enjoyed your article, many thought provoking points. Teens/children are impressionable, they are forming their worldview, if they base their worldview and consequently their thoughts/actions on such non-sense then they, along with their generation and society as a whole are in trouble! I cannot understand why any Christian parent (or any parent at all) would think it's ok for their child to read such books. Your quote about a movie being a sermon in pictures is so true! How many of those teens could sit through a 2hr sermon on the Word of God, yet they would be glued to the silver screen?! I get that its a 'facinating' topic and they may well be curious, but we should be one step ahead to teach them such things are not pleasing in God's sight and why. In our house there is a TOTAL ban on witchcraft, magic, fairies and other such matter. It is not edifying. The Word of God say 'by beholding you become changed'. Satan is shooting out some seriously firey darts, they are going over our heads (generally through lack of knowledge) but catching our children and buring them! We are their 1st line of defence and protection until they can defend and protect themselves! Let us not make it so easy for Satan to capture our children's hearts and minds! Isn't their eternal destiny worth fighting for?
