My Resolution & Top 10 Posts in 2009
My New Year’s resolution is to be kinder. I was convicted by a Bible study on Micah 6. What Does God Require of You? Three things: Be just, kind, and humble. I need to be kinder. I feel like I’m always the stern, mean, boss Mommy barking orders: “Don’t do that.” Put that down.” “Bring that here.” “Do not make me come over there!” Pick that up.” Wipe your feet.” Clean your plate.” “Do your math.” “Did you finish your spelling?” I said brush your teeth not wet your toothbrush.” “You are not allowed to watch that.” “You know better than that.” and 100 times a day I say, ” Is that being kind to one another? Leave your brother alone.” I want my children to remember their mother showing kindness more than discipline. In the Deathbed Letter from My Great, Great Grandmother said
When I am gone, try and find comfort in Jesus. Never close your eyes to sleep without each reading a verse in the Bible and as my little ones grow up teach them to love the Bible and the church of God. But, amidst all let memory carry them back to a home where the law of kindness reigned, where the mothers reproving eyes was moistened with tears, and the father frowned more in sorrow than in anger.
I want the law of kindness to reign in our home.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Proverbs 31:26
The word for “law” there is torah, the same word that’s used for “law” in the Bible. The torah of kindness. And the word for “kindness” is a word that’s generally used to mean “mercy.” It’s translated over 240 times in the Old Testament as checed, and it means “mercy.” But it also is translated “kindness,” and it’s also translated “loving kindness.” My prayer: Father, Let Your checed–loving kindness and mercy –flow through me on my tongue, in my manners to my husband, children and grandchildren. Help me be sympathetic, gentle, friendly, tender-hearted, and generous in all my ways. These were most popular post for for 2009:
